When your body talks …
You notice a growing stiffness in the shoulders, a recurring lower back pain, or a tightness in the breathing. You try exercise, sport, relaxation or going for walks in search of relief. But despite these efforts, the tension keeps coming back. Maybe it’s due to the general circumstances of your life, a difficult moment, a prolonged stressful situation or a traumatic life experience. What all these events generate is tension in the body.
Using Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)
One way to eliminate this tension is through Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). These exercises work by provoking a self-controlled muscular shaking in the muscles called neurogenic tremors which provoke states of relaxation, allowing fuller physiological recovery to take place. The process naturally reduces stress levels and increases resiliency in the body. The shaking can also release emotions associated with mild upset or severe anxiety caused be either difficulties in work, conflict in relationships, physical stress or trauma from accidents.
Whether you would like more patience with your family, have been a victim of violence or an accident, are suffering form post-traumatic shock, or simply want to become more resilient and feel better about life, you can benefit from TRE.
What exactly is TRE?
TRE stands for Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises. Developed by David Berceli, an international expert in trauma intervention, TRE is a set of six exercises which are easy to learn and practice. The uniqueness of this technique is that the shaking is centred in the psoas, a long muscle located in the abdomen which plays a key role in determining overall body posture.
The gentle tremors reverberate outwards from the abdomen along the spine, gradually releasing tension from the sacrum all the way up to the cranium. When tension is released in the body like this, the brain registers a reduction in the pain signals, producing new hormones that promotes healing.
TRE is now being used by thousands of people around the world as an effective tool for releasing chronic traumatic stress, physical tension and emotional trauma. It is also quickly becoming a popular way to release the everyday stress, tension and anxiety that comes from the daily pressures of life.
Learning TRE
It is possible to learn TRE by reading books and/or watching a DVD. You might have immediate results from the exercises or you may have to practice them for a while before results become perceptible.
Because the TRE process can be quite intense, some people find it beneficial to work with a Certified TRE Practitioner either on a one-to-one basis or in a workshop setting. This can be especially true for people who believe they had traumatic experiences who need to be guided and taught how to self-regulate any emotions that might surface.

It is possible to join a weekly one hour TRE workshop in Nantes (Rond Point de Rennes) to learn and practice these exercises. It is open to beginners and those who wish to develop their TRE practice.
